Review of – Consumed Volume 2

image

As most of you know, I think Kyle M. Scott is a great author, and this book of shorts proves it again.

I enjoyed all of the stories, especially the last one. What a great ending line. How true it is. Nothing ever really ends, does it?

Strippers was good, can’t beat the revenge of women.

Room 7 I had already read in an anthology, good one and gruesome.

And have to love the last line in Mr Moustache.

If you haven’t read anything by Kyle M. Scott, Consumed Volume 1 and 2 would be great ones to start with.

4 out of 5 stars.

The Stand by Stephen King

This one was hard for me to get into. Not saying I didn’t like it, more so toward the end, I think I have read too many apocalyptic books lately.

I think that when King wrote this book, and if I had read it then, I would have liked it much more.

A Review of: The Gates by Iain Rob Wright

image

This was a refreshing side to the apocalypse. No zombies, but something more horrifying. Demons rising up from the gates of hell.

This book follows many main characters from all parts of the world, which was also something most apocalyptic books do not do. I liked this about the story.

I enjoyed many of the main characters, even though some do not survive, but, it is an apocalypse. How many people survive that?

This was my first time reading a book by Iain Rob Wright, even though I have many of his books on my Kindle to read. I was given an ARC of this book as a part of his advanced readers group. I enjoyed this book and will look forward to the sequel.

4 out of 5 stars.

JEA AWARDS 2015/WITH TOOTH AND CLAW/COLLECTION RUMINATIONS

I wrote a post about awards last year so I won’t go overboard on repeating everything I said then, I’ll just keep it succinct. Yeah, yeah I know, big ask for me, the guy who loves writing words…a lot of them.

J. Ellington Aston’s annual awards has happened for 2015 and With Tooth And Claw managed to pick one up for Collection of the Year. My bottom line in writing is that I do it because I simply love to write and my head is a constant churn of stories demanding to be written, but it is most definitely a cool thing to have other folks dig your work and enjoy the stories as much as you enjoyed writing them.

With Tooth And Claw came out in February this year, and while it’s been a little more of a slow burner than Plebs…

Review of – Swan Song by Robert McCammon

image

I loved this book. It is definitely going on my list as one of my all time favorite books.

This was my first time reading McCammon. Very impressed and will now have to get to his other books that are on my TBR pile.

I have a love for the post apocalyptic genre. There is a real fear in the thought of it, whether it will ever happen, who knows and I doubt some of us will ever even know if it does happen.

I always like and admire the strength and will to live of the characters in these types of books. Sister, Josh, Swan, Robin, Paul, Glory and many others; they all had these characteristics and became some of my favorite characters ever.

Then you have the bad seeds: Macklin, Roland, Friend; you know, the characters you love to hate. You just knew what the Job’s Mask would reveal as their true faces.

A Different Kind of Horror – UPDATE!

Horror Reviews for You

Hey everyone,

With all the utter crap going around on the social media sites these days, I wanted to bring you something fun and in most cases, more terrifying than anything these guys could ever write.

A couple days ago, Matt Shaw challenged horror authors to a lip sync battle using the hashtag #AuthorLipsyncBattles. He called out specific authors by name, but invited any horror author who wants to participate. A few authors have taken him up on his challenge. There are no rules. Simply choose a song and lip sync in the most entertaining way possible.

These are the entries so far.

Matt Shaw – 1

Matt Shaw – 2

Matt Shaw – 3 (language warning on this one)

Jack Rollins

Graeme Reynolds

Shaun Hupp – 1
